Weapon upgrade!

Hi everyone! Here's another week of development. As planned, I improved a bit combat mechanics, now everything is floating point. This will be useful in the future with buffs and debuffs. Also killing a player awards you with 10 experience, in the gif below you can see Leon with 40 for instance.

I heard some suggestions in my previous reddit post about having an arrow pointing at where the player is aiming. I thought to give it a try, but while I was searching for arrows sprites, I thought I haven't even gave guns to players, so I combined the two things.

Here are the three types of guns players are randomly given at login and every respawn:

Common Gun

This is the basic one, here are its stats:

Fire rate
0.5
Damage7
Weight1000

Each bullet does two damage, as of now there's only one type of those, so a total of 9 damage and 18 per second.

Plasma Gun

Is lighter, shoots faster, but does a little less damage:

Fire rate
0.4
Damage5
Weight900

with a total dps of 17.5 is your thing if you like to move faster than your enemy.

Plasma Rifle

Fire rate
0.8
Damage23
Weight5000

This can hurt a bit, with 25 damage and 20 dps. But you move waaay slower so... your choice (whenever inventory will be ready).

I also added health regeneration, you can see Leon being hurt pretty bad but then slowly recovering:

In the end I think this aiming feature turned out great, so is probably going to stay.

For the next update, I plan on introducing mobs shared among all players. Bullets should start from the tip of the gun too.

I'd also like to add something about the lore of the game. Right now takes place in the dystopian place-to-be-defined, burnt down by some catastrophe about climate or nuclear war. Not very creative, I know, that's why I need to come up with something in this regard.

But first I'd like to hear from you which feature you think the game needs and which can be changed for the better! You can chat about anything on my dedicated discord channel, in the community or right under this post. Keep in mind that I'm saving art for later when the game is more complete, so everything is courtesy of opengameart.

See you next time!
